30 years after, King Sunny Ade opens up on relationship with Onyeka Onwenu

If you rocked in the late ’80s and ’90s, then you’ll know the evergreen tune ‘Wait For Me’, a classic duet by King Sunny Ade and Onyeka Onwenu.
The love song back then was a monster hit and it came with controversies. It wasn’t long before fans and the media paired up Sunny Ade and Onyeka to be lovers as a result of the song, its lyrics and the video.
It has however taken King Sunny Ade over 30 years after the release of the song to clear the air on the alleged romance between him and Onyeka Onwenu.

In a chat with TheNETng in Lagos recently, KSA, who revealed plans to celebrate his 70th birthday in grand style, revealed to our correspondent that, ‘at that time we did the song to guide kids against unwanted pregnancy, if i remember very well it was organised by Hopskins University of America. So we recorded the song as call and response, it was a pure gimmick and the fans bought it, it led to a lot of rumours that made the song big. But In reality, Onyeka is my colleague, my sister and a good woman. I never had a crush on her, we play together on stage everytime.
